Pastor
Tonny Jacobsen has been a pastor here since 2007. He is married to Rita, and they have four adult children: Jonas, Anne, Terese and Kristian.
Tonny has previously been principal of Mariager Højskole, pastor of the Pentecostal Church in Thisted and youth pastor of the Pentecostal Church in Herning. As well as being a pastor at Bykirken, Tonny is the chair of FrikirkeNet, on the Danish Council of Churches and on the Danish Bible Society’s translation team for the New Testament.
Tonny has a PhD in theology from the University of Wales. In his spare time he loves running, cycling and listening to good music.
Pastor
Martin Højgaard Jensen has been a pastor here since January 2023. He is married to Hanne, and they have three children: Filip, Kristian and Jeppe.
Martin has previously been an efterskole (boarding school) teacher, pastor of Sjølundkirken in Næstved, communications officer at Brødremenighedens Danske Mission and church manager at Open Doors.
Martin has three years of theological study at the Baptist Union’s seminary and a diploma in leadership with a focus on volunteering.
In his spare time Martin enjoys a bike ride around Vejle and a good book, loves watching football, at the stadium or on TV, and plays the piano.
Diaconal pastor
Maria has led Familien Vejle, the church’s diaconal work, since 2021 and became diaconal pastor in spring 2026. Alongside her work at Bykirken she is studying for a master’s in theology at Aarhus University, with practical theology from Menighedsfakultetet as a supplementary subject. She also holds a master’s (cand.mag.) in history and classical studies.
Maria lives in Gadbjerg with her husband Jens and their two children. She enjoys card and ball games in her free time, but has a reputation as a bad loser, even at UNO with her children.
Children’s pastor
Mirjam has been Bykirken’s children’s pastor since January 2023. She is married to Johan, and they have three children: August, Lauge and Anna.
Mirjam lives with her family in Middelfart, is a trained teacher and has years of experience with children, teens and young people in many settings.
Trainee pastor and leader of the teen club Somos
Mathias has been a teen leader since August 2024 and in summer 2025 became a trainee leader and pastor at Bykirken. Mathias is a student at Mariager Højskole, where he studies theology full time.
In his free time Mathias loves watching films and going to the gym. He loves having guests for dinner and isn’t afraid to experiment with the food.
Trainee pastor and leader of the youth fellowship Connect
Filip has been a youth leader since summer 2023 and in summer 2025 became a trainee leader and pastor at Bykirken. Filip is married to Amalie Højgaard, and they live in Vejle.
Alongside his ministry at Bykirken, Filip studies theology at Mariager Højskole and works as a teacher at Kildevæld Efterskole in Kolding.
In his free time Filip loves watching and playing football, having friends round and a game of Partners.
